The cottage is situated in the village of Lithaire and faces Mont Castre, known as Hill 122 during World War II. Lithaire: Lithaire is a remarkable site that has been built by the municipality of Lithaire in cooperation with the District, which includes 21 municipalities in the canton of 24 and the Regional Park of Cotentin and Bessin. The developed site also known as 'Old Castle' has been the site of old quarries since the beginning of the century until 1979. There are now two lakes at the foot of Mont Castre where you can enjoy, during the summer. Lithaire simply means 'mountain views' or 'beautiful view'. Mount Castre itself, which is the name of the wood and the hill that rises to the west of Lithaire, is named after the fight that allegedly took place in 56 BC between the AD Romans commanded by Sabinus, a lieutenant of Caesar and the Gauls led by Viridovix. 'Castre' means 'camp' in Latin. If you climb to the top of Mont Castre you will find the remains of the old chateau together with even more ancient remains. The village shop, where you can buy fresh baguettes and essential supplies, is within easy walking distance. The local market town of La Haye du Puits is only 5 minutes drive away and here there is an excellent choice of shops, restaurants and banks. Long sandy beaches that are perfect for walking and beachcombing are within easy reach, approximately 13 minute drive. St Germain sur Ay is only a short drive away and here, during the summer months, you will find bars, restaurants and a nightclub. Pirou Plage has two restaurants and two snack bars. There is also a small but very well stocked supermarket. Portbail is a lively seaside town where you will find a variety of restaurants and small shops. If you wish to try your luck in a casino Agon Countainville is the place to head for. Agon Countainville not only has a casino it also has a race course, good restaurants, bars and shops. If time permits take the ferry and enjoy a day in Jersey, the local tourist offices will have details of where to sail from.

Your base at Le Noyer means that you are ideally situated for exploring the Manche area of Normandy. Barfleur from where William the Conquer set sail in 1066 to England. Take a trip to the ancient town of Bayeux and see the famous Tapestry. Visit “The D Day Landing Beaches” and the moving cemeteries to all casualties of World War II. Travel further afield to Mont St Michel, and if you feel so inclined take a guided walk across the bay of Mont St Michel, but do go prepared as it is muddy and wet. During the summer the local abbey of Lessay holds music concerts. Details of which can be obtained from the local tourist office. The Cathedral and Public Gardens of Coutances are not to be missed. Coutances is also excellent for shopping both for supermarkets and for individual shops. However if you want the true French shopping experience visit one of the local markets. La Haye du Puits (Wednesdays) is particularly good and of course local. With so much to choose from you will find that you have something new to do every day.
